PROMEX is the exam a serving officer sits to go up a rank. It runs on the same day as the entrance exam, next on October 18, 2026, in four classes that follow the rank you are being promoted into. The reviewer for it is next on our list; here is what it covers, and how to be told when it opens.

Which PROMEX you take follows the rank you are going into.
RA 11200 renamed the PNP ranks in 2019, and NAPOLCOM renamed the examination classes to match. The old Police Officer, Senior Police Officer, Inspector and Superintendent examinations are now these four.

Police Officer 4th Class
For promotion to Police Corporal and Police Staff Sergeant.
Examination fee ₱400

Police Officer 3rd Class
For promotion to Police Master Sergeant, Senior Master Sergeant, Chief Master Sergeant and Executive Master Sergeant.
Examination fee ₱450

Police Officer 2nd Class
For promotion to Police Lieutenant and Police Captain.
Examination fee ₱500

Police Officer 1st Class
For promotion to Police Major and Police Lieutenant Colonel.

Fees are the ones NAPOLCOM published for the 2026 examinations and are set per announcement. Eligibility for each class (time in rank, training, and appointment status) is published in the same announcement and is checked at registration, not here.

The entrance paper tests general ability. The promotional paper tests whether you know the job at the next rank.

Organisation, personnel management, supervision and the administrative rules a supervisor is expected to apply.

The PNP Ethical Doctrine, RA 6713 and the disciplinary system, at the level a senior officer is held to.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the entrance and promotional exams?
The PNP Entrance Examination is for people who are not yet in the PNP (and for patrol officers holding a temporary appointment); it tests general information, verbal, quantitative and logical reasoning. The PNP Promotional Examination is for serving officers going up a rank; it tests police administration, operational procedures, values and ethical standards, and general information at the level of the rank being sought.
Which PROMEX class do I take?
The class follows the rank you are being promoted INTO. Police Officer 4th Class covers Police Corporal and Police Staff Sergeant; Police Officer 3rd Class covers Police Master Sergeant, Senior Master Sergeant, Chief Master Sergeant and Executive Master Sergeant; Police Officer 2nd Class covers Police Lieutenant and Police Captain; Police Officer 1st Class covers Police Major and Police Lieutenant Colonel.
How much does the promotional exam cost?
NAPOLCOM's fees for the 2026 examinations were ₱400 for Police Officer 4th Class, ₱450 for Police Officer 3rd Class, ₱500 for Police Officer 2nd Class, ₱600 for Police Officer 1st Class. Fees are set per announcement; check the current one before you pay.
Can I use this site to review for PROMEX now?
