How to pass the NAPOLCOM exam: what the third who pass do differently, as an eight-week plan.

About one examinee in three passes the NAPOLCOM examinations, on a paper whose content is secondary-school English, arithmetic and logic plus a fixed body of general information. The difference between the third and the two thirds is not intelligence and rarely knowledge. It is whether the review was aimed at the paper as it is: four areas, three hours, no calculator, and a general information block that has to be read. This guide is that review, laid out as eight weeks, with the reasoning behind each week so it can be stretched to twelve or compressed to six.

How to Pass the NAPOLCOM Exam: An Eight-Week Plan Built Around the Pass Rate

Short answer

Diagnose first, then spend the review where the marks are: general information from week one (it is reading, and it pays fastest), daily arithmetic by hand, a word list, and a fixed method for each logical item type. Sit full three-hour mocks in the last three weeks. Aim for 80% by area so 70% on the day has a margin.

Quick facts

Length
8 weeks (12 if starting from zero)
Week 1
Diagnostic, then general information reading
Weeks 2–5
Drill the weakest area, one deck a day
Weeks 6–8
Full timed mocks, by hand, no pauses
Target
80% per area on mocks

Primary keyword: how to pass napolcom exam

Key takeaways

  • Start with a diagnostic, not a textbook. Forty timed items tell you where the review goes.
  • General information goes first because it is the only area where reading converts straight into marks, and the one most people leave for last.
  • Drill your weakest area, not your favourite. Every item counts the same and the missing marks are cheapest there.
  • Arithmetic by hand every day. Speed without a calculator is a habit, not a talent.
  • Three full mocks under the real clock in the last three weeks. Pacing is the fifth area.

Week 1: diagnose, then read

Sit a 40-item diagnostic across all four areas under time on day one, before you open anything. The score is not the point; the weakest area is. That area is where the review begins, and if it is not general information, general information still starts this week anyway, because it is reading and reading takes calendar time.

The general information reading list is short and fixed: RA 6975 (the creation of the PNP, NAPOLCOM's authority, the original ranks and qualifications), RA 8551 (qualifications for appointment, the Internal Affairs Service, promotion and discipline), RA 11200 (the current ranks and what each replaced), Article III and Article XVI Section 6 of the Constitution, the five pillars of the criminal justice system, and RA 6713. Read each once, closing the source after every section and writing down what you remember.

Weeks 2 to 5: drill the weakest area, keep the others warm

Four weeks of untimed practice, weighted toward whichever area the diagnostic named, with an explanation read on every item including the ones you guessed right. One flashcard deck a day keeps the other areas warm. Each area has its own way of being drilled, and using the wrong one is the most common way to spend four weeks without moving.

How each area is drilled
AreaDaily habitThe method
General InformationReread one section, then twenty recall itemsRead, close, write, check. Recognition built by active recall survives exam pressure.
Verbal ReasoningTen to twenty new words in sentences; one grammar ruleNote the nearest synonym and the tempting wrong answer; name the grammar rule before choosing; go back to the passage for every reading item.
Quantitative ReasoningTwenty arithmetic items by handFundamentals until automatic; estimate before computing; read the last sentence of a word problem first and name the type.
Logical ReasoningTen analogies, five deductions, five patternsState the relationship in a sentence; write deduction facts down; run one checklist on every pattern.

Weeks 6 to 8: sit the paper

Three full mocks, one a week, each 150 items in three hours, by hand, no pauses, a fresh question set each time. After each one, review every miss and drill that area for the rest of the week. The score should climb; what matters more is where the pace broke, because that is what the last mock fixes.

The last three days are light review only: no new topics, sleep before drills. On the morning, eat, dress in the prescribed attire (plain white shirt, dark pants, shoes), bring the Notice of Admission, a No. 2 pencil, a black ballpen and a valid ID, and leave the phone at home.

The target. 80% in every area on a full timed mock. NAPOLCOM's pass mark is 70% on the whole paper with no per-area minimum, and a ten-point margin is what absorbs the items you will misread on the day.

Stretching or compressing the plan

From zero, or with a diagnostic well under 50%, make it twelve weeks by doubling the drilling block. With six weeks, keep the diagnostic and the general information reading, cut the drilling to three weeks on the weakest area only, and keep all three mocks; the mocks are the part that cannot be cut. With two weeks, sit a mock, read the three laws and the two Constitution articles, drill the weakest area, and sit another mock. Two weeks is enough to move from 60% to 70%; it is not enough to move from 40%.

What the third who pass do differently

They read general information instead of hoping to reason through it. They do arithmetic by hand from the first week instead of discovering the calculator ban on the day. They learn one method per logical item type instead of treating logic as talent. And they sit the whole paper under the clock before the one that counts, more than once. None of it is clever. All of it is the difference between 29.75% and the other side of it.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I review for the NAPOLCOM exam?

Eight weeks is the plan above; twelve from a low start, six if that is what you have. The parts that cannot be cut are the diagnostic, the general information reading, and full timed mocks in the last weeks.

What should I study first for the NAPOLCOM exam?

Sit a diagnostic first. Then general information, because it is reading and it pays fastest, alongside whichever area the diagnostic named as weakest.

Is a review center necessary?

No. The content is secondary-school level plus a short reading list of laws. What a review center gives is a schedule and a teacher; what it cannot give is the timed practice by hand that decides the result. Many people do both.

How many mock exams should I take?

At least three full three-hour papers in the last three weeks, each with a fresh question set, plus the diagnostic at the start.
